The 'Man with the Golden Flute' was born in Belfast in 1939. He began his musical career as a child playing the flute, and at the age of just 10 he won a music competition in his hometown.
A graduate of the F. Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw in the bassoon class of Prof. Z. Płużka (diploma with distinction in 1995).
The name of this musical form comes from the Italian word suonare meaning "to sound". In the past (17th century), a sonata was an instrumental piece for multiple voices and thus became the opposite of a vocal cantata.

Although it won Eurovision in 1995, one must admit that the competition must have looked completely different back then than it does now. I am impressed by the talent of Rolf Løvland and Secret Garden. If someone is looking for calm sounds for relaxation, I recommend this piece.
