Currently in Poznań, the XIV International Violin Competition named after H. Wieniawski is taking place. This is traditionally the most important musical event in Poland... when the 'Chopin Competition' is not being held. But are violins, not something more 'sensitive' than pianos? - a more important creation?
On Saturday, March 23, 2019, the CIX concert from the series "Great Music in the Small Hall" organized by the Warsaw University of Technology took place. Although the concert was held in the Large Hall of the Polytechnic, the concert series retained its name for historical reasons.
"Every private has a marshal's baton in his backpack and thinks he will be a general. I knew immediately what I wrote in 1976 and now I know too," said Henryk Mikołaj Górecki about his III Symphony - "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" in 1993. Today, almost a year after the composer's death, during a concert at the Wratislavia Cantans festival, we have the opportunity to recall one of the most important musical works of the second half of the 20th century.

Mieczysław Karłowicz was a Polish composer who lived from 1876 to 1909. His violin concerto in A major is the third part of his opus 8. Karłowicz is considered one of the most important composers in the history of Polish music. The artist performing is K. A. Kulka - a talented violinist who proves his skills by performing this challenging concert work. Karłowicz's violin concerto in A major is a stunning example of romantic music. The form of this piece is in three movements - Allegro moderato, Romanze. Andante, and Allegro molto vivace. All three parts are full of beautiful and expressive melodies that emanate a wealth of emotions. Karłowicz skillfully operates moods, creating tension and drama, only to later dissolve into delicate and melancholic sounds. What distinguishes Karłowicz's violin concerto in A major is the richness of sound and the exquisite violin effects. The composer utilizes the full range of techniques on the instrument, and K. A. Kulka is able to fully showcase these elements. His interpretation is full of passion, varied dynamics, and an accurate expression of the emotions conveyed through this piece. The era in which Karłowicz composed is known as Post-Romanticism. Despite initial influences from Romanticism, the composer created music with a unique and individual character. His works are connected to the landscape of Polish nature, which gives the music a specific, melancholic mood. The violin concerto in A major, part 3, is an extraordinarily beautiful and musically refined work, which in K. A. Kulka's performance gains additional brilliance and depth. It is a piece that impresses with its technique while simultaneously surprising with its emotional message. Karłowicz brilliantly combined virtuosic elements with artistic sensitivity, creating a concert that continues to delight listeners around the world.
Wow, that was amazing! Mieczysław Karłowicz was a true genius! His Violin Concerto in A major, part 3 enchanted me. K. A. Kulka also amazed with his virtuosity on the violin. This music is so emotional and full of passion. It's hard to believe that Karłowicz composed it at such a young age. We really need to appreciate the talent of this composer. I love listening to this type of music that delights my senses and heart. I hope more people discover this beauty and get inspired by this piece. We are wonderfully gifted with such music.
