Currently in Poznań, the XIV International Violin Competition named after H. Wieniawski is taking place. This is traditionally the most important musical event in Poland... when the 'Chopin Competition' is not being held. But are violins, not something more 'sensitive' than pianos? - a more important creation?
On Saturday, March 23, 2019, the CIX concert from the series "Great Music in the Small Hall" organized by the Warsaw University of Technology took place. Although the concert was held in the Large Hall of the Polytechnic, the concert series retained its name for historical reasons.
"Every private has a marshal's baton in his backpack and thinks he will be a general. I knew immediately what I wrote in 1976 and now I know too," said Henryk Mikołaj Górecki about his III Symphony - "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" in 1993. Today, almost a year after the composer's death, during a concert at the Wratislavia Cantans festival, we have the opportunity to recall one of the most important musical works of the second half of the 20th century.

Mieczysław Karłowicz was a Polish composer and violinist, born in 1876. His Violin Concerto in A major is one of the most well-known works by this creator. The composition consists of four parts, and the second part, of which we are witnesses in this recording, is full of emotion and virtuosity. Karłowicz lived during a period that encompassed the transition from Romanticism to Modernism in music. He was one of the representatives of the national school of composition in Poland, which aimed to express the national spirit in music. His music was full of strength and passion, but it also had subtle and intimate moments. The video we are watching is performed by K.A. Kulka, a talented violinist known for his excellent technique and emotional approach to music. His interpretation of Karłowicz's concerto is both exciting and moving. The form of Karłowicz's Violin Concerto in A major, Op. 8, Part 2, follows the traditional scheme, with an initial Allegro moderato, followed by Adagio, then Intermezzo, and concluding with a virtuosic Finale. The era in which this concerto was created is referred to as fin de siècle, meaning "end of the century." It was a period when artistic and intellectual aspirations focused on seeking new forms of expression. Karłowicz was composing during this time, drawing inspiration from Romantic ideals while also experimenting with his own style. Karłowicz's Violin Concerto in A major, Part 2, is an example of his strong and intellectual approach to composition. This music requires technical mastery from the performer and interpretative sensitivity. It is an unforgettable experience for the listener, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the world of emotions and the beauty of Karłowicz's music.
This is a stunning performance of Mieczysław Karłowicz's Violin Concerto that captivates me with its beautiful melody and vivid sound. K. A. Kulka is a virtuoso on the violin and perfectly conveys the emotions contained in this composition. This piece allows me to escape from reality and transport myself into the world of music. It is a true gem for all lovers of classical music, especially for the youth. I am glad that I can reach for such masterpieces and draw incredible inspiration from them.
