Currently in Poznań, the XIV International Violin Competition named after H. Wieniawski is taking place. This is traditionally the most important musical event in Poland... when the 'Chopin Competition' is not being held. But are violins, not something more 'sensitive' than pianos? - a more important creation?
On Saturday, March 23, 2019, the CIX concert from the series "Great Music in the Small Hall" organized by the Warsaw University of Technology took place. Although the concert was held in the Large Hall of the Polytechnic, the concert series retained its name for historical reasons.
"Every private has a marshal's baton in his backpack and thinks he will be a general. I knew immediately what I wrote in 1976 and now I know too," said Henryk Mikołaj Górecki about his III Symphony - "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" in 1993. Today, almost a year after the composer's death, during a concert at the Wratislavia Cantans festival, we have the opportunity to recall one of the most important musical works of the second half of the 20th century.

The A major Violin Concerto, Part 1 by Mieczysław Karłowicz is one of the most important works of this Polish composer. Mieczysław Karłowicz was born in 1876 and tragically died at the young age of 32. His creativity was deeply rooted in Romanticism, which is also evident in this violin concerto. The A major Violin Concerto was composed in 1902 and is one of Karłowicz's most famous pieces. The work is composed in four parts, and the first of them delights with its richness of melody and exquisite instrumentation. It is precisely in the first part that the violin soloist, in this case K. A. Kulka, has the opportunity to showcase their skills. The A major Violin Concerto is the essence of Romanticism. Full of colorful phrasing, extraordinary harmonies, and expressive melodic lines make this work continue to captivate listeners around the world. Karłowicz skillfully combines classical form with emotional expression, which makes him one of the most important representatives of the era. Mieczysław Karłowicz was one of the representatives of the so-called Young Poland, a group of artists who sought to reject the influences of foreign culture and find vitality in Polish musical tradition. Due to his too-short career, he did not manage to achieve the fullness of his talent, but he left behind a significant legacy. The A major Violin Concerto, Part 1, Op. 8 by Mieczysław Karłowicz is a masterpiece of Polish Romantic music. Both the composer's talent and the virtuosity of the soloist make this recording absolutely worth attention. It is worth reaching for this recording and surrendering to the emotions that this beautiful music evokes.
Wow, this interpretation of Karłowicz's concert by Kulka is out of this world! The violin sounds phenomenal, and the emotions conveyed in the music are striking. This is a truly youthful performance that will delight everyone, not just classical music lovers. Karłowicz is a brilliant composer, and Kulka brilliantly captures his beauty and intensity. This part of the concert is absolute magic that one cannot resist. I recommend it to everyone who wants to feel a true spectrum of emotions and be transported to another world. Kudos to Kulka for such a wonderful performance!
