Opium String Quartet (O.S.Q) was formed in the spring of 2004. Just under three months later, they made their debut at the summer festival in honor of Jerzy Waldorf in Radziejowice, receiving enthusiastic reviews.
The beginnings of the quartet's history date back to 1993, when Joanna Baran and Jadwiga Wołek founded a guitar duo called Alirio Duo. Despite the successes the duo achieved in Poland and abroad, the artists decided to expand its lineup, wanting to enrich...
Adam Domagała: When you founded the famous Alban Berg Quartet over 40 years ago, you were already, like your colleagues, a recognized virtuoso, a professor at the Academy of Music in Vienna. Using terminology from the world of pop music: it was a supergroup, loud from the very beginning due to the reputation of its members. Do you think that in today's times such a 'professorial' venture would have a chance of success? Could it capture the attention of a distracted audience?

Kronos Quartet is a renowned chamber ensemble that has been captivating global audiences for years with its interpretations of classical music. Their performances are extremely emotional, and each composition is presented in an original way, free from any stylistic constraints. The video Four For Tango is an excellent example of what Kronos Quartet showcases at its concerts. The composer of the piece Four For Tango is Argentine musician Astor Piazzolla, known mainly for his contribution to the development of tango nuevo - a modern variant of tango. Piazzolla was one of the most important composers of the 20th century, who revolutionized this musical genre by combining it with elements of classical music and jazz. The piece Four For Tango is an exceptional example of his creativity, thanks to its expressiveness and unique sound. Kronos Quartet perfectly finds itself in this music, able to convey its characteristic emotions and rhythm. The members of the ensemble perform tango with full commitment and virtuosity, and their collective playing is perfectly synchronized. Their interpretation of Four For Tango is full of dynamics, where melodies flow from one instrument to another, creating a unique dialogue between the individual members of the ensemble. The form of the piece Four For Tango is typical for tango, based on two parts - the first is more melancholic and reflective, while the second explodes with energy and passion. Kronos Quartet fully captures both of these parts, simultaneously creating a fluid conveyance of emotions. The era in which the piece was created is the 1980s, and Kronos Quartet continues the tradition and modernity of that period. Their exceptional approach to music, bold interpretations, and quest for new sounds make them recognized as pioneers and significant artists of their generation. The video Four For Tango is not only an excellent example of the talent and interpretation of the Kronos Quartet but also a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with the works of Astor Piazzolla and the exceptional genre of tango nuevo. I recommend this piece to all music lovers who wish to discover something special and unforgettable.
This video is absolutely amazing! The Kronos Quartet performs the piece "Four For Tango" in an incredibly passionate and energetic way. Their perfect playing and harmony make it hard to take your eyes off this piece. The music is full of emotions and dynamic changes that hit right in the heart.
