Flute is the general name for wind instruments with wooden lips (often made of metal, silver, or gold nowadays). The most common variations of the flute are the grand flute (most popular) and the piccolo.
The name of this musical form comes from the Italian word suonare meaning "to sound". In the past (17th century), a sonata was an instrumental piece for multiple voices and thus became the opposite of a vocal cantata.
Alongside Beethoven and Mozart, a great representative of Viennese classicism. Considered the father of the symphony, sonata, and string quartet, he contributed to the flourishing of these musical forms, which survived almost intact until the beginning of the 20th century.

Joseph Bodin de Boismortier was a French composer and music theorist active in the 18th century. His works represent the galant style, characterized by light, melodic lines and refined harmonies. The C major Sonata, performed by Magdalena Kania and Marta Wizner on flute, is one example of this style. The performance by the artists is incredible. Their interpretation of the C major Sonata not only delights with technical skill but also captures the wonderful character of the piece. Kania and Wizner perfectly convey the elegant and playful nature of Boismortier's music. The sonata form here is an ideal medium for expressing the composer’s musical ideas. It consists of three parts: Allegro, Adagio, and Allegro. The first Allegro begins with a fast, energetic motif that is interrupted by a lyrical and sentimental melody. The Adagio is a moment of reflection, where the flutes showcase the beautiful sound of their instrument. The final Allegro returns to a dynamic tempo and virtuosic passages, creating an extraordinary emotional effect. This C major Sonata is one of Boismortier's most recognizable works. The composer was sought after for his melodic talents and ability to create music accessible even to amateurs, and this piece is a perfect example of that. It is worth noting the richness of details and interesting harmonies that highlight his creative genius. Boismortier lived in the era of Rococo, which was characterized by elegance, delicacy, and sentimentality. His music embodies the spirit of this period, emphasizing the beauty and joy of life. The C major Sonata is an excellent example of how the composer was able to immerse himself in the spirit of his time and present it in music. Throughout the concert, the artists demonstrate excellent technique and musical sensitivity, with the performance of the C major Sonata being at the highest level. Thanks to them, we can continue to enjoy discovering the beauty and charm of the creativity of Joseph Bodin de Boismortier.
