This composer and theorist, active in the Romantic era, was born in Leipzig in 1813. He became interested in music after listening to the works of Beethoven and Weber. His first work - an orchestral overture, could be heard in Leipzig when he was 16 years old.
And so, after a sultry and stormy summer, autumn finally stepped onto the stage. It entered, as it does, with a long, gliding step, billowing the cloak of colorful leaves, humming mournful melodies under its breath – a harbinger of winter's darkness. Johann Sebastian Bach was one of the most outstanding composers of the Baroque period. His orchestral suites, such as No. 2 BWV 1067, are considered masterpieces of this genre. This work begins with an Overture, which we have the opportunity to watch a recording of. The orchestra performing this Suite is the Historical Orchestra, led by Martyna Pastuszka, with Artur Malke as the manager. The soloist on the transverse flute (traverso) is Georges Barthel. This recording comes from the final concert of the "Musica Poetica" Festival in Tarnów, which took place on March 23, 2013. The Historical Orchestra is composed of talented musicians. Martyna Pastuszka serves as the concertmaster, while the violins are played by Adam Pastuszka, Alicja Sierpińska, Violetta Szopa-Tomczyk, Małgorzata Malke, and Marzena Biwo. Dominika Małecka played the viola, Bartosz Kokosza played the cello, and Stanisław Smołka played the double bass. Anna Firlus played the harpsichord. The recording was made available by the audio-video company Produktownia, which ensured high quality of sound and image. I encourage you to visit the Produktownia website and the Historical Orchestra's Facebook page, where you can find more information about their activities. If you have any questions, you can contact the Historical Orchestra via email. This concert is an excellent example of a Baroque work performed by a historical ensemble. The rawness of the sound and the attention to authenticity in the performance make this recording exceptional. Here we have the opportunity to absorb not only Bach's music itself but also the way it was performed in the composer's time.
This version of Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 2 is absolutely brilliant! The Historical Orchestra performs this masterpiece with passion and elegance. Georges Barthel virtuoso on the traverso adds a unique charm to the piece. The concert from the "Musica Poetica" Festival in Tarnów was breathtaking. Thank you for this unforgettable interpretation!
