Adam Domagała: When you founded the famous Alban Berg Quartet over 40 years ago, you were already, like your colleagues, a recognized virtuoso, a professor at the Academy of Music in Vienna. Using terminology from the world of pop music: it was a supergroup, loud from the very beginning due to the reputation of its members. Do you think that in today's times such a 'professorial' venture would have a chance of success? Could it capture the attention of a distracted audience?

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is one of the most important composers of the Baroque era. His creativity was incredibly versatile, encompassing various musical forms, from cantatas and sonatas to fugues and suites. The Bourrée, which Bach composed as part of his Suite in B minor, is a perfect example of his masterful compositional technique. Bach was one of the greatest virtuosos of his time, primarily known as an organist and harpsichordist. Although, like many suites, the Suite in B minor was originally intended for performance on the harpsichord, this piece can successfully be performed on other instruments as well - from guitar to orchestra. The Bourrée in the Suite in B minor is a work with a lively tempo and dance character. A very characteristic feature of this piece is the repeating sequences of chords, which give it its unique rhythm and energy. Despite the simplicity of the form, Bach weaves numerous harmonic and contrapuntal changes into this piece, giving it depth and richness of sounds. The Baroque era, in which Bach operated, was characterized by a pursuit of perfection and balance. Composers of this period emphasized full harmonic melodic lines, rhythmic precision, and elaborate counterpoints. Like the Suite in B minor, many Baroque works were composed as part of a larger whole, such as a suite or cantata. Today, Bach is considered one of the most important and influential composers in the history of music. His works, including the Bourrée from the Suite in B minor, are still performed and appreciated all over the world. Their universality and timelessness make Bach's music incredibly popular among both musicians and listeners.
This video is absolutely epic! J.S. Bach always delivers, and this piece is proof of that. The Bourrée from the B minor suite is the quintessence of his genius. It's so energetic and dynamic that I can't sit still! Every note in this performance is perfect. This music can transport me to a completely different place. Bach gets a 10/10 from me for this masterpiece!
