I knew immediately what I wrote in 1976 and now I know too," said Henryk Mikołaj Górecki about his III Symphony - "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" in 1993. Today, almost a year after the composer's death, during a concert at the Wratislavia Cantans festival, we have the opportunity to recall one of the most important musical works of the second half of the 20th century.
Aga Mikolaj is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Poznań, where she had the opportunity to learn singing from prof. Antonina Kawecka - one of the most recognized Polish opera singers. She continued her education in Vienna.
In addition to composing music for television and film, Mikołaj Stroiński successfully composes tracks for popular video games. His latest significant project is the music for the third part of the Witcher saga - 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'.

Symphony No. III, also known as the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, is one of the most important works of the Polish composer Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. Composed in 1976, the piece is incredibly moving and full of deep emotions. Górecki, born in 1933, was one of the most significant representatives of contemporary Polish music. He was a composer who often addressed themes of suffering, evil, and tragedy in his works, which is also evident in Symphony No. III. The piece was commissioned by soprano Stefania Woytowicz and was dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust. Symphony No. III consists of three movements, of which the second, performed by WOSPRiT from Katowice under the baton of Jerzy Katlewicz, is the most famous. This movement, titled Lento e Largo, is a full of sorrow and sadness monologue that rises to the heavens in prayer, expressing a song of longing for beauty and national heritage. In his symphony, Górecki utilized extremely simple melodies, repetitive motifs, and slow tempos, which give the piece an unimaginable expressive power. The whole work is realized in the key of D minor, which further emphasizes the atmosphere of sadness and sorrow. Symphony No. III is a work that evokes powerful emotions in the listener. It is simultaneously an expression of truth, simplicity, and the depth of human experience. Górecki created a piece that moves with its raw simplicity, immersing us in a world of mysterious emotions and reflections. It is a masterpiece of life and death that continues to touch the hearts of listeners around the world.
