Gabriel Fauré - Quintet in D minor Op. 89
performed by: Quatuor Ebene, Michel Dalberto
I first heard Fauré's Requiem when I was fourteen. At that time, my entire perception was focused on the creativity of one of the Viennese classics, the creator of the most famous mass of consolation - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The quintet is made up of section leaders of the Warsaw Camerata orchestra: Adam Zarzycki - 1st violin, Monika Kos-Nowicka - 2nd violin, Michał Styczyński - viola, Jerzy Wołochowicz - cello and Małgorzata Kołcz - double bass.

Gabriel Fauré is one of the most important names in the history of French music. Born in 1845, he was a composer, organist, and educator. His music is characterized by subtle beauty, emotional depth, and sophisticated use of harmony. His Piano Quintet in D minor, Op. 89, is one of the most well-known and valued works in his oeuvre. The video features a performance of this piece by the Quatuor Ebene and pianist Michel Dalberto. Quatuor Ebene is renowned for its excellent interpretation of chamber music, and Dalberto is regarded as one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation. Their performance of this Quintet is extremely precise, yet full of expression and depth. The form of the piece is typical for a chamber quintet, consisting of four string instruments (two violins, viola, and cello) and a piano. This kind of formation allows for rich contrapuntal textures and provides the listener with both beautiful melodic lines and interesting harmonies. The era in which Fauré operated is late Romanticism. However, the creativity of this composer is often described as transitional between Romanticism and Impressionism. His music features both elements typical of Romantic expressionism and the delicate and imaginative harmonies of Impressionism. The Quintet in D minor, Op. 89, perfectly illustrates this blend. On one hand, you can distinctly hear Romantic pathos, while on the other hand, there is an Impressionistic delicacy in its sound and harmonies. Conclusion: The Quintet in D minor, Op. 89 by Gabriel Fauré is an excellent example of the work of this outstanding composer. Quatuor Ebene and Michel Dalberto provide an exceptionally inspiring and emotional interpretation of this piece. This is a valuable video for both chamber music lovers and those interested in the development of music at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
This is really a pleasant and atmospheric video! The music of Gabriel Fauré is so beautiful and melancholic, and this interpretation by Quatuor Ebene and Michel Dalberto is absolutely wonderful. I love the way they play together and create such deep emotions. Each instrument in the quintet has its unique sound that perfectly blends with the others. This music transports me to another world where I can fully relax and immerse myself in its sounds. This is truly something worth listening to and appreciating, especially if you are a fan of classical music.
