Hamlet and Ophelia share complicated feelings. In their love, nothing is obvious. Ophelia, rejected by her lover and emotionally driven to despair, is already in the water and intends to drown herself. However, she hesitates, considering all the "for" and "against", realizing what her relationship truly was. She discusses with Hamlet and the entire courtly world, seeing how she has been manipulated and reduced to an object of male games.
OFELIAkontraHAMLET is a performance that shows that the struggle of the sexes and the fight for equality will always govern our world. This conflict is unsolvable, but paradoxically gives meaning to human existence, keeping it in action and tension. It does not matter who wins; in a moment, the roles will change anyway. Everything is the same - on stage we sometimes have Ophelia and Hamlet, sometimes two Hamlets, sometimes two Ophelias. The duel continues, only its form changes.
Stanisław Wyspiański, followed by Rafał Matusz, the director of the performance, proposes a new interpretation of Shakespeare's play. Based on two classic texts by the author of The Wedding: The Death of Ophelia and Study on Hamlet, a piece about the penetration - but also the conflict - of the worlds of women and men has emerged.
