Stanley Devine: Smorawinski on the scale of Chopin and ABBA
Stanley Devine, a journalist and author of the controversial at times book "On every topic" published in the form of a conversation with Prof. Maria Szyszkowska, compares the guitarist from Glogow, Witold Smorawinski, to Chopin, and even the legendary ABBA. 'It has long been known that art is an essential factor for the proper development of each civilization. Moreover, its different forms - even when marked by extreme diversity - seemingly have nothing in common, but they actually serve as a bridge for understanding the multicultural world, and consequently for realizing the omnipresent state of peace and kindness. It is in these categories that I perceive the art created by Witold Smorawinski. In His love for the sounds of the guitar, there is something more than just mastering a masterful craft, because He can perfectly penetrate through various layers of culture in His playing. As phenomenally as the Scandinavian ABBA, the Polish guitarist finds himself in southern spaces, to mention Spain or Greece, always preserving at least a hint of national heritage, as Chopin did almost two hundred years ago.' Devine concludes his statement by saying, 'this is a great reason for pride for all of us, but above all for Glogow.' The above words testify to the recognition enjoyed by Witold Smorawinski and the positive reception of the Glogow artist, who will already record his third album of classical guitar music in a professional studio in October.
