Event Description

An American, John, arrives in a small Greek village and falls in love with the beautiful widow, Marina. Fascinated by the extraordinary beauty of nature, atmosphere, and local customs, he wants to become part of this small Greek community, but the Greeks reject him. The villagers, deeply rooted in their unity and tradition, show hostility towards John and Marina, the woman who dared to ignore the love of Greek Yorgos and fell in love with a foreigner. This small community is unable to accept a foreigner representing Western culture. The only person who befriends John is Zorba - a strong and free man, a wanderer who belongs to no one. Madame Hortense, an aging, torn by love memories subretka, who sees in Zorba the embodiment of all her longings, falls in love with him, despite his pride and independence, he gives her a few moments of happiness and paints a vision of fulfilling her dreams shortly before her death. Marina also dies - she becomes a victim of a vengeful mob, stoned by villagers outraged by the humiliated lover Yorgos. Deeply embittered, John is close to collapse. Zorba is also overwhelmed by despair. Zorba and John start a beautiful dance that restores strength, expresses faith and hope that one must resist the adversities of fate. The crazy dance "sirtaki" draws everyone in, everyone dances, everyone seeks comfort, forgetfulness, and strength for a new life.
