Havana Carnival Rhythms

To conclude the carnival, the Szczecin Philharmonic will resonate with hot afternoon rhythms. We will be transported to the sultry atmosphere of Havana in the 1930s – to the times of lively music and dance parties. On Friday evening, original Latin American songs will be sung to us by … the professor.

The hot Latin American rhythms will crown this year's carnival at the Szczecin Philharmonic. From the stage, we will hear pieces by Moncayo and Marquez, which have been reigning on world symphonic stages for a decade, as well as one of the most popular compositions by the king of film music from the 1930s - George Gershwin's 'Cuban Overture'. The powerful orchestral cast, diverse instrumentation, exceptional melodies of the works, and above all their rhythm create an extraordinary effect.

In the second part of the concert, original Latin American songs will be performed. Jorge Luis Valcarcel Gregorio, a Cuban who has lived in Szczecin for years, will appear in an unusual role. On a daily basis, he is an extraordinary professor at the Academy of Art in Szczecin and simultaneously serves as the cellist of the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra.
Jorge Luis Valcarcel Gregorio will play the guitar and drums and sing unconventional songs arranged by his brother, Marcos. Marcos Valcarcel Gregorio, who lives in Spain, is also a musician. He composes, arranges, and preserves works belonging to the Latin American heritage.

The concert will begin on Friday, February 28 at 7:00 PM.

Tickets are priced at 40 PLN (regular), 30 PLN (group), 20 PLN (discounted) and can be reserved at the Philharmonic box office (pl. Armii Krajowej 1) in person or by phone at 91 422 12 52 or 539 94 94 54. The box office is open from 1 PM to 6 PM (Tue - Thu), 1 PM to 8 PM (Fri) and one hour before each ticketed event.
