In the past year, the Polish Music Publishing House has not remained indifferent to the situation at our eastern border. The actions taken so far include the effects of publishing cooperation with the Music Ukraine publishing house. Today, 'I Want to Play the Piano' â a dual-language piano school by Natalia Hrydniewa and Maria Chrapaczowa, illustrated by Kosta Åawry, is available for sale. This is the first of four Polish-Ukrainian publications for children that will enrich the PWM catalog in the coming weeks.
In 2022, PWM published arrangements of the national anthem of Ukraine and the sheet music We Have Each Other â a piece written by Adam Sztaba with lyrics by Carmell, featuring top Polish vocalists. The proceeds from the sale of the sheet music in both digital and printed versions, as well as the digital recording, were donated to Caritas Poland to help the victims of the war in Ukraine. Another significant step towards supporting our neighbors across the eastern border is the collaboration with the Music Ukraine publishing house.
'We know how important a role specialized music publishers play, especially at the beginning of learning, which is why we decided to actively support the team of the Music Ukraine publishing house in this tragic moment in history,' says the director â editor-in-chief of PWM, Dr. Daniel Cichy. 'After the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine began, we initiated discussions about editorial cooperation, purchased licenses for excellent educational publications, and together with the Ukrainian editorial team, we prepared them for Polish publication.'
For Beginner Musicians
I Want to Play the Piano is intended for young pianists who are just getting acquainted with the instrument. It is the first illustrated sheet music publication since Ukraine regained independence, which â as noted by the director of Music Ukraine, Bogdan Kryvopust â has achieved bestseller status there.
This publication introduces children to the world of piano music and familiarizes them with the best examples of piano repertoire. Works by classical composers and contemporary Ukrainian creators are compiled in collections in a way that allows for gradual yet smooth development of musical skills. The volumes are designed for the first two years of learning to play. They support the basic musical development of both future professionals and amateurs of musical art.
'I am very happy that now, when Ukraine is fighting for its existence â and I am sure it will win â our children, who are abroad and learning to play the piano, will be able to benefit from this publication. In these difficult times of war, support for cultural projects is minimal, which is why cooperation with the Polish Music Publishing House gives hope for future joint projects,' admits Bogdan Kryvopust.
Not Just Piano
The cooperation between PWM and the Ukrainian publisher will include a total of four sheet music publications for children, three of which are intended for piano, and one for cello. All prepared volumes will be bilingual and will be available for sale in the coming weeks.
'We believe that Polish-Ukrainian publications will also contribute to introducing the youngest to attractive Ukrainian repertoire, excellent methods of teaching instrument playing, and will also develop the recipients' awareness of the musical culture of our neighbors,' emphasizes the director â editor-in-chief of PWM.
The partner for the publication of 'I Want to Play the Piano' is the Center for Artistic Education.
The latest children's publications can be found in the stationary PWM bookstore, online bookstores: pwm.com.pl, www.alenuty.pl, and good music bookstores across the country.

The Polish Music Publishing House has been a cultural institution since 1945, specializing in publishing sheet music and books in the fields of classical music, jazz, and film music. The wide publishing offer of the Publishing House includes works of early and contemporary music, Polish and world repertoire, sheet music intended for amateurs and specialists, publications of a pedagogical, scientific, and popular nature, as well as an extensive catalog of book and lexicographic publications. PWM is one of the most important music institutions in Poland, promoting the creativity of domestic composers among foreign partners. It is also a representative of leading foreign publishers in the country. Responding to the expectations of contemporary audiences, in 2019 PWM expanded its activities with a new record label â ANAKLASIS. As the publisher of 'Ruch Muzyczny', the Publishing House creates space for artistic dialogue and scientific reflection, exchange of ideas, and shaping aesthetic awareness. Meanwhile, the resources collected since the beginning of its activities in the Institution's archives are made available in the Polish Music Library â a digital database that often collects unique sheet music and iconographic materials. PWM initiates educational activities, being the main organizer of popular Music Education Days. As part of the project 'Heritage of Polish Music', the Publishing House secures the musical heritage of the partition period and conducts activities that bring closer the creativity and artistic activities of that time, including through the Music Publishing Course and the latest series of podcasts 'DNA of Polish Music'.
