Before the concert, at 7:45 PM, we invite you to the concert hall for a lecture, which will be led by Anita Skwara and Adam Suprynowicz.
Organ improvisations wonderfully correspond with early cinema – films from a hundred years ago gain a new dimension thanks to it. The idea is almost as old as the history of cinematography.
The first screening with the use of organs took place in 1908 at the Chicago Alcazar Theater. Thus, silent cinema – accompanied by a one-man orchestra placed behind the counter – enjoyed triumphs for the next two decades, until the invention and popularization of sound films at the turn of the 30s and 40s.
Specially constructed instruments even gained their own name: film or theater organs. What couldn't they do! Among the sound effects they imitated, there were snoring, laughter, and even… kisses. Organs could raise cries of vengeance, feverishly claw, weep sadly, sob from joy, wail from love, groan tortured by guilt, cry like a child, giggle like a toddler, and even… bark like a dog.

A musician who can improvise on the organ to a film is a true white raven. They must be able to combine melodies, harmonies, and counterpoint into a graceful musical form. And at the same time, they must follow the image being displayed…
