Organizer: Polish Society of Contemporary Music
Location: Fryderyk Chopin University of Music
Okólnik 2, Warsaw
On Sunday, October 13, at 5:00 PM in the concert hall of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (Okólnik 2, Warsaw), the Polish Society of Contemporary Music, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, will present one of its most unique projects 'Images from Warsaw'.
As part of this project, compositions evoking the capital that no longer exists â pre-war, once, almost phantasmagorical â have been created. The project also refers to the Warsaw Uprising, which turned out to be a dramatic dividing line in the cityâs history, separating it into two completely different parts.
Each of the presented pieces will be preceded by a brief historical introduction. The event will feature three compositions:
'Womenâs and Menâs Fashion Magazine â Warsaw, which no longer exists and the Varsovians who live in my memory' by Anna Ignatowicz-GliÅska is a composition referring to the famous pre-World War I Fashion House 'BogusÅaw Herse', a symbol of world style and elegance in contemporary Warsaw.
'Remembrance. Warsaw 1939' by Ryszard Osada reminds us of the Circus of the Staniewski Brothers, a huge rotunda with a performance hall for 3,000 people, equipped for water shows, also rented for boxing matches, large conferences, or party meetings. The Circus of the Staniewski Brothers was bombed in the first days of September 1939, was never rebuilt, and in its place now stands... the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.
The last composition, 'Via caelestis' by JarosÅaw SiwiÅski, refers to the tragic bombing in the church of St. Francis in Nowe Miasto during the Warsaw Uprising.
