Two Suites from Bizet's opera Carmen, captivating Spanish rhythms of Chabrier's rhapsody, Wesołowski's concerto featuring the rarely performed euphonium and virtuosic trombone showcases – this is, in a nutshell, the program of the most euphoric concert of this season.

The fascination with Spain particularly influenced composers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, especially in France. The result of this peculiar 'Iberian madness' was many remarkable works by Debussy, Bizet, and Ravel. Emmanuel Chabrier also succumbed to it. His full of southern sensuality España is a rhapsody for orchestra and the most famous piece by this composer. The whole lasts only six minutes and features both the rhythms of Spanish dances malagueña and jota, moments played at breakneck speed, but also more lyrical fragments. And if we trust the opinion of Manuel de Falla himself, no composer captured the spirit of Aragon better than Chabrier did.
