DESCRIPTION:

The heroes of this concert will be three wonderful Polish composers from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Their music was once listened to with delight from Odessa to New York. It was a time of eruption of many compositional talents, not only in Poland. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the works of our native creators from that time are now on the repertoire margin. The common trend among philharmonics around the world to focus on well-known and played works has led to a situation where masterpieces still await discovery. The vicinity of the Independence Day is a perfect pretext to invite music lovers to a joint and, hopefully, satisfying listening of forgotten pearls of Polish music.

The evening will open with Variations on his own theme by Zygmunt Noskowski, the creator of many elaborate orchestral works and wonderful chamber pieces. It is said that among his admirers was Ferenc Liszt. He not only recommended Noskowski's works to publishers but also participated in the premiere of his Piano Quartet, Op. 8.

Next will be the Piano Concerto in A minor by Ignacy Jan Paderewski – a work written with unusual flair, full of sparkling themes, but also of spiritual depth, capable of captivating crowds. The first part of the work – Allegro – was created in Warsaw, the next parts in Kraków and Vienna. Paderewski himself wanted to sit at the piano during the premiere of the work, but he was persuaded by Anetta Jessipowa – one of the most famous pianists of that time – to entrust her with the solo part. Thanks to the influence of the artist, during this concert, the baton was taken by Hans Richter – perhaps the greatest conductor of that time. The premiere of Paderewski's Piano Concerto in A minor in Vienna ended in spectacular success.
