Montserrat Caballé

Her international career began in 1965. She was asked to quickly learn the title role for Gaetano Donizetti's opera Lucrezia Borgia. Caballé's first aria at Carnegie Hall amazed the New York audience. The unknown vocalist was greeted by a 20-minute standing ovation from the surprised audience. The next day, the New York Herald Tribune declared: The impact of this dignified woman on an audience accustomed to Maria Callas or Joan Sutherland was indescribable. When Caballé began the first aria, a huge change in the atmosphere was palpable. For a moment, it seemed as if everyone was holding their breath. That evening, representatives of major recording companies and other significant figures in the classical music industry were present in the audience. That evening, Montserrat Caballé also joined the ranks of the world's best sopranos.
She began performing in the most prestigious operas and concert halls in Europe, Asia, and both Americas. Her singing could be admired by audiences at La Scala in Milan, the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Paris Opera, the Gran Teatro del Liceo Barcelona, the Moscow Bolshoi, the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, the Hamburg Opera, the London Royal Festival Hall, the NHK Hall Tokyo, the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, and many other places. She appeared on stage alongside the best orchestras and under the baton of conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, James Levine, Sir Georg Solti, Sir Colin Davis, and Riccardo Muti.
Montserrat Caballé's repertoire is vast. She has played over ninety roles, making her the unrivaled soprano of the 20th century. Commercially, she is also unbeatable - her name appeared on over 80 albums, half of which are complete operas.
Over the past 15 years, when most opera artists reduced their activities, sticking to a few significant roles, Montserrat began to take an interest in less popular, and sometimes completely unknown repertoire, such as: Christoph Gluck's Armide, Antonio Salieri's Les Danaïdes, or Giacomo Paccini's Saffo, which she successfully revived. She also became known to a wider audience through the album Barcelona, recorded with Freddie Mercury, whose title track accompanied athletes at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Montserrat Caballé has received many international awards, distinctions, and titles. Since 1974, she has been an Honorary Ambassador to the UN, and since 1994, a Goodwill Ambassador to UNESCO. The Polytechnic University of Valencia, the University of Barcelona, and the Russian Mendeleev University have awarded her an honorary Doctorate, and the International Market of Records and Music Publishers has awarded her a special prize for her continuous support of young talents.
Montserrat Caballé is an extraordinary artist. Her vocal qualities, one of the most beautiful and versatile voices in history, as well as her charisma, strength, and warm personality, reach the audience in an incredible way, enchanting all who have the opportunity to listen to her. And she is the best example of what the term diva means. Because Caballé is undoubtedly a diva in 100%, although she modestly says: I am not and never have been a diva - I am just Montserrat.

The artist can be admired on December 22nd in Warsaw!
