Agnieszka Jakimiak, hailing from Łódź, will delve into the Łódź club culture of the turn of the millennium – a history of ephemeral revolution in the rhythm of acid techno, drum’n’bass, jungle, and punk, driven by thousands of young people who gathered in the clubs and on the streets of a city known for its post-industrial dust and overwhelming grayness.
For today’s 40-50-year-olds, the performance will be a return to their student days; for the generation of their children – a meeting with the city, the atmosphere, and the music of the 90s; for Łódź – another chapter in the celebrations of its 600th anniversary.
I am from Łódź, but I have never been to the Freedom Parade, to the squat on Węglowa, to the parties in the tunnel under Pomorska Street, in the club New Alcatraz. I left Łódź 18 years ago, believing that everything here should be fought for. Today I would like to feel the pulse of a city I did not know then – to be a part of Łódź, which celebrates diversity and plurality, a city where one does not have to worry about the safety of others, because they come together, shoulder to shoulder. I would like to go to a party where women, queer individuals, non-binary teenagers, clumsy dancers, industrial fanatics, and oddballs like me feel at home.
It is said that art is there so we can temporarily experience someone else's life. In this performance, I invite everyone to experience together my first Łódź rave.
