The Mechanics of Captivating Dreams

Disc Jockey

Due to the workplace, DJs' techniques vary slightly. Club DJs mix electronic dance music in such a way that the audience can dance without breaks between tracks. They must also respond to the needs of the partygoers so that the music does not become boring. Interestingly, a good club DJ usually does not mix music known from mass media. They create their own style, and because of this, DJs can be distinguished by genres such as techno, house, drum and bass, etc.

Disco DJs, on the other hand, play music currently recognized as popular. They also play music on request, send greetings, and dedications. They announce tracks and also share based on style (rock, pop, etc.). A scratch DJ/turntablist most often uses appropriate turntables, possibly connected to software on a computer. With the help of these devices, they scratch sound, manipulating a short fragment of a track – most often a special part of an interesting sound – while a regular track is played from another player.

Equipment

The basic tools of a DJ include: turntable, CD player, file player from mass storage, headphones, computer, mixing software, and of course, a mixer. A single channel of an analog mixer consists of several devices operating on one signal. These include: preamplifier, phantom, insert socket, optionally a low-pass filter, fader (attenuator), pan control, AUX send, solo bus, level indicator, and tone control (two, three, or four-point).

Not all mixers are equal

Unlike audio mixers designed for recording and broadcasting, DJ mixers have a limited number of channels – usually two, and instead of a main fader – a crossfader. The front panel of these mixers significantly differs in construction from typical audio mixers. When scratching, sliders are heavily used – the arrangement of control elements must therefore facilitate ease of use and speed of operation: primarily, the space around the crossfader and faders is freed up, additionally, the EQ section can also be shifted to the edge or made in the form of sliders. This facilitates access to the most important elements of the mixer and minimizes the risk of accidentally hitting other sliders with hands. In the case of techno mixers, the situation is reversed: the more channels for simultaneously connecting more sound sources, the better.

Portable, compact, comfortable controller A remarkably wide range of DJ mixers is available on the market. The prices of seemingly similar devices can differ even several times. But the similarity is only superficial. Special attention is drawn to a 2-channel controller from American Audio, offering significantly more than any other product in this class. You can find it on the website. In the package, the user always receives the popular software Virtual DJ. However, the VMS2 can also work with any other software aimed at DJs. It can also connect CD players or turntables. It has a microphone input with GAIN control, balanced XLR outputs, a built-in 4/4 audio interface, and control over the crossfader curve.
