Mateusz Pałka, a pianist, improviser, and composer associated with the Krakow music scene, is one of the representatives of a promising group of talented jazz musicians whose presence on the stage ensures that the Polish jazz school is still relevant.
In MATEUSZ PAŁKA TRIO, one of several projects of this musician, the leader is accompanied by Piotr Południak on double bass and Patryk Dobosz on drums - both with their own successes on Polish and international stages.
"Melodies. The Magic Mountain" is the second album of this lineup, whose members have already presented themselves to jazz fans in several countries on three continents as sensitive artists with an extremely lyrical approach to the music they create.
Years of collaboration in the case of jazz music allow for communication at a level of understanding beyond words. This is particularly important in the case of the enormous care for every detail of acoustic sound, which is extremely important for Mateusz Pałka in the process of composing new pieces.
The new album by MATEUSZ PAŁKA TRIO is inspired by poetry, novels, painting, nature, classical and jazz music - everything that the contemporary world serves us. How much are we able to hear and see what is happening around us? - Mateusz Pałka asks. And he answers: I want it to be a journey that absorbs and envelops - inviting the listener to a shared adventure.
A very organic approach during the recording of music, a kind of return to the roots, when production interventions are kept to a minimum, and the material is recorded in one take, actually without corrections and overdubs, allows for the audible effect of the narrative spun by the composer and then the performers of the story. It is music that, thanks to its melody and structure, flows directly from the hearts of the creators to the hearts of the listeners.
The material for the album "Melodies. The Magic Mountain" was created in the legendary Studio S4 named after Jerzy Wasowski, thanks to the support of Polish Radio Program Two. The recordings were made by one of the best Polish sound masters, Leszek Kamiński, on November 28 and 29, 2022. His contribution to the final artistic expression of the album is invaluable. The musicians believe that Kamiński's extraordinary sensitivity and deep knowledge greatly helped them achieve the intended effect.
Also, the monochromatic cover project of "The Magic Mountain" by Anna Maria Olak is a minimalism of organic and simple graphic form, aimed at encouraging the listener to immerse themselves in the mystery of the discovered melodies.
