Last year, Maciej ZieliÅski stood out significantly on the contemporary music scene. In September, his monographic album 'Across the Millenniums - Music from the Turn of the Millennium' was released, summarizing his serious creative work. A major event was also the multiple performances of his 'Concerto Inquieto' for clarinet and orchestra. During the 'Warsaw Autumn' festival, two concerts took place where his works were presented, as well as his recently released album. In the 2011/2012 artistic season, Maciej ZieliÅski serves as the Resident Composer of the Polish Radio Orchestra. As part of this collaboration, an impressive 45-minute, 5-part work 'V Symphony' was created, which was premiered by the aforementioned orchestra with great success in January of this year.
Maciej ZieliÅski is a laureate of many composition competitions in Poland and two international ones (Czech Republic, Germany). A graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London, he has repeatedly been recognized as a composer who excellently combines tradition with modernity and an intuitive approach to the work with an intellectual one. His music is often very expressive and emotional. It engages the perception of listeners despite the challenging language of contemporary music.
In addition to serious creative work, ZieliÅski's film music and songs are also widely known. He is perhaps the only composer on the Polish music scene who functions very naturally in both the avant-garde environment and popular music. As he himself says, this happened thanks to his family home, where a lot of popular music and jazz was listened to. His father - Andrzej 'Fats' ZieliÅski was a well-known jazz drummer, playing with stars of Polish jazz - Krzysztof Komeda, Zbigniew NamysÅowski, MichaÅ Urbaniak, Andrzej Kurylewicz.
During his education in music schools, this familiarity with popular music was complemented by serious music. Thanks to this, ZieliÅski's circle of musical interests is very broad. He collaborates with stars such as Kayah and Ania DÄ browska. He is also the author of soundtracks for many film hits of recent years ('Never in Life', 'Just Love Me', 'Criminals', 'Street Games'). He collaborates with many outstanding musicians from the entertainment and jazz scenes.
The last year has already yielded three albums featuring ZieliÅski's music. In January, the music from the film 'Oh Karol 2' was released, in February - 'Sounds of Love' - a two-disc compilation of his most popular film themes, and in September, the aforementioned monographic album with contemporary music - 'Across the Millenniums'.
