Podgórze Cultural Center - Fort Borek invites you to an exceptional piano concert performed by Maciej Tubis titled "Komeda: Reflections"

Maciej Tubis – active on the scene for years, a classically trained pianist who has developed his unique style through original compositions as the leader of the Tubis Trio, with which he has recorded four albums that have been excellently received by critics and audiences. A searching musician, not shying away from unconventional authorial and arranging solutions. In love with the piano, fully devoted to the sensitivity that solo interaction with this instrument gives. “Komeda: Reflections” is his first solo album in his career.

The creativity of Komeda has been very close to me for a long time, but the turning point was my doctoral dissertation on the influence of classical piano playing on the aesthetics of improvisation. After the defense, I was invited to play a concert, which was received with great enthusiasm, and even then questions about the album began to arise – this is how Maciej Tubis describes the genesis of the project.

On the album “Komeda: Reflections”, the sound of the acoustic piano has been expanded with preparations and an analog synthesizer. The main element remains improvisation, which does not erase the melodiousness, phrases, and themes, so characteristic of Krzysztof Komeda's creativity. In the last ten years, so many different albums have been created with Komeda's music that I was simply afraid of creating something that would be considered derivative. It was also about the difficulty resulting from playing solo on the piano. It is much easier to play in a band, even in a duet, than to present oneself with a solo program. That is why I reached for synthesizers and was not afraid of production work, such as recording multiple piano tracks – the pianist continues.

At the concert, works from Maciej Tubis's latest album “Into the Night” will also be presented. It is a continuation of the sound that gained recognition on the album “Komeda: Reflections”. This time, Tubis enriches his compositions with analog synthesizers, creating an exceptional combination of classical piano and modern electronics. Calm ballads, trance motifs, playful effects, and long echoes create a nightly tale, full of quietness and reflection.
