Łódź | XXII Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition

The Institute of Chamber Music of the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Łódź invites you to participate in the oldest Polish chamber music competition – the XXII Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition. The competition auditions will take place from April 7 to April 13, 2025. The application form must be completed by January 31, 2025.

The history of the competition spans over 60 years. In 1995, the competition was named after Kiejstut Bacewicz – its initiator, an outstanding chamber pianist, educator, composer, and long-time rector of the University of Music in Łódź. Until the fifteenth edition, the competition was an intercollegiate event for students of Polish and foreign music academies. Since 2007, it has been open to all chamber ensembles that meet the regulations – the average age of the ensemble members must not exceed 30 years on the day of the competition commencement.

The auditions will take place from April 7 to April 12, 2025, and the Prize Winners’ Concert will be held on April 13, 2025, in the Chamber Hall of the G. and K. Bacewicz University of Music in Łódź (in the building of the Regional Centre for Culture, Education and Music Documentation, 1 Maja Avenue 4).
The competition is open to the public.

The competition is conducted in two stages. The first stage will take place in two categories:
• Category A
instrumental duo with piano
• Category B
3-, 4-, or 5-person instrumental ensemble with piano
The best ensembles from each category will qualify for the second stage auditions, where they will be classified together.

The competition is under the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Hanna Wróblewska, the Łódź Voivode Dorota Ryl, the Marshal of the Łódź Voivodeship Joanna Skrzydlewska, and the Mayor of the City of Łódź Hanna Zdanowska.

The Institute of Chamber Music of the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Łódź invites you to the 22nd Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition, which will be held on April 7 to April 13, 2025. The application form must be completed by January 31, 2025.

The Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition has been held at the University of Music in Łódź every three years since 1961. Its main organizer has always been the Chair of Chamber Music (now the Institute of Chamber Music). Since that time, for almost 50 years, the competition has been evolving, its formula has improved, attracting a growing number of young chamber music players. In 1992, the competition became an international event and subsequently, in 1995, was named after its originator, Professor Kiejstut Bacewicz. Until its fifteenth edition in 2004, the competition was an intercollegiate event, addressed to students of music academies only, both Polish and foreign. Since 2007, it has been dedicated to all chamber ensembles, with members below 30 years of age on the day of commencement of the competition.

The auditions will be held from April 7 to April 12, 2025, and the Prize Winners’ Concert will take place on April 13, 2025, in the Chamber Hall of the G. and K. Bacewicz University of Music in Łódź (in the building of the Regional Centre for Culture, Education and Music Documentation, 1 Maja Avenue 4). The competition is open to the public.
