Established in 2003 at the initiative of instrumentalists collaborating with the New Chamber Orchestra and Warsaw Camerata. The group consists of graduates of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw: Emilia Walasek-Gorczyca - 1st violin, Monika Kos-Nowicka - 2nd violin, Ewa Rybarczyk - viola, Katarzyna Oczkowska - cello
The quartet has performed multiple times at prestigious events at the Royal Castle, including those organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, as well as at the residence of the British ambassador during Princess Anne's visit to Warsaw. The quartet has also performed at many outdoor events, including summer concerts at the Concert Shell in Praga Park and the Summer Festivals of New Town.
The repertoire of "Merlo" includes both classical quartet pieces (quartets and Divertimenti by W. A. Mozart, J. Haydn), as well as popular classical music hits, such as Humoresque by A. Dvořák, waltzes by J. Strauss, songs by S. Moniuszko and M. Karłowicz, adapted for a four-person ensemble. A special place is occupied by the highly popular entertainment, film, and musical music in interesting arrangements, including many ragtimes by S. Joplin, songs by C. Porter and G. Gershwin, songs from F. Sinatra's repertoire, tangos, as well as country music.
