"Small masterpieces. European old graphics". An extraordinary exhibition of works by Rembrandt, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Albrecht Dürer, David Teniers, Jacques Callot, Bernard Picart and many others at the Silesian Museum in Katowice!
From July 20, we invite you to visit the exhibition "World Enigma. Costumes and scenography of Małgorzata Bulanda", which was created thanks to the cooperation between the Silesian Museum in Katowice and the Modrzejewski Theater in Legnica, which for years has been staging its performances in industrial spaces, pioneering theatrical activities and projects in post-industrial spaces in Poland. The series of presented works shows the workshop of a scenographer working on and off the stage, building reflection on contemporary visual arts. Małgorzata Bulanda's works refer to the idea of recycling used objects or waste, which in reuse create beautiful creations.
The exhibition shows the achievements of the artist participating in the creation and realization of a storytelling theater engaging in the stories of local communities in both Legnica and other cities in Silesia. Belonging to a group of artists who have repeatedly performed plays in the Katowice agglomeration, especially in the headquarters of the Silesian Museum and the Bogucice district, travelers changing the world and crossing the boundaries of regions in Poland, countries, and continents.
On July 27 at 6:30 pm in the exhibition space, in the Łaźnia building, we invite you to listen to the concert of Transmission Zero. The post-rock trio from Krakow is primarily characterized by melodic sound, which the musicians boldly collide with a massive wall of distorted sound. During the concert, we will hear both calm, melodic fragments that will often transform into strong and loud walls of sound. It will be diverse - from quiet and light moments to heavy and intense sounds. The band will play songs from their two previous albums and new compositions that will be heard live for the first time. We invite you to this exceptional combination of music and art, which will surely provide unforgettable experiences.
July 27 at 6:30 pm, tickets for 1 PLN. Limited to 30 seats.

On August 1 at 6:00 pm, we invite you to the opening of the new temporary exhibition "Small masterpieces. European old graphics".
The exhibition presents an incredible wealth of artistic graphics created over several centuries. It is also a testimony to the magnificence of the collection of the Silesian Museum, which includes works not only by Polish artists, but also by outstanding European creators such as Rembrandt, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Albrecht Dürer, David Teniers, Jacques Callot, Bernard Picart and many others.
The exhibition covers a wide range of themes leading visitors through print cabinets, map rooms, portrait galleries, or narratives about specific events and historical figures. It is also a space for reflection on life and death, rest and solace in the simplicity of everyday life. The extraordinary richness of biblical motifs and representations, both from the Old and New Testaments, complement mythological allegories, battle scenes, and a rich collection of prints depicting fortifications and fortifications of many cities. The representations of battlefields by Erik Dahlbergh and the Battle of Vienna by Gabriel Bodenehr from 1683 are noteworthy. The rich collection of portraits shows historical figures, 17th-century artists, and lesser-known individuals, allowing insight into the lives of different social classes. The exhibition also offers beautiful landscapes - both rural, village scenes, and urban landscapes, depicting architecture and interiors. These works depict the lives of rulers, aristocracy, and common people, providing a glimpse into the daily life of past eras.
The exhibition is enriched by dozens of works borrowed from the Palace Foundation in Bycina, whose still developing rich collection of old graphics can boast works by artists such as Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Albrecht Dürer, Albrecht Altdorfer, or Lucas van Leyden.
The cooperation with the Palace Foundation in Bycina, founded to save the baroque palace in Bycina, one of the few baroque ensembles in Upper Silesia, is the result of my long acquaintance with its founder Aleksander Sławomir Harkawy, a conservator of works of art, conducting work on many monuments in our region, and at the same time a collector of works of art, running galleries, and even art supply stores for artists, that is, a person who has been involved in the world of art from many different angles - says the exhibition curator Łukasz Szostkiewicz.
Aleksander Harkawy was a lecturer of Łukasz Szostkiewicz during his studies, where he learned traditional painting techniques.
Knowing that he collects old graphics, I decided to once again establish cooperation and invite him to participate in the exhibition Small masterpieces. European old graphics, which resulted in the loan of several dozen magnificent graphics, which in the future will probably constitute a permanent collection of works presented in the renovated Palace in Bycina. Thanks to this, at our exhibition you will see Durer's graphics depicting two motifs from the Apocalypse of St. John, a rather unusual graphic by Rembrandt depicting a lying pig, a whole host of portraits of Dutch artists, 17th and 16th-century mythological, biblical, historical, and military motifs. Very interesting is, among others, the image of the Battle of Vienna created literally a few years after these events, showing the battle plan and almost all the troops involved. Many times Aleksander Harkawy has given me good advice on various issues related to art, exhibitions, or the artistic environment, so I am glad that thanks to this acquaintance, we managed to establish another cooperation and enrich the exhibition with outstanding works of art - explains the exhibition curator.
