GLASS HOUSE ORCHESTRA
FRANK LONDON AND JEWISH MUSIC FROM AUSTRIA-HUNGARY
June 30, 2016 - Thursday
TIME 19:00

Frank London will present at the POLIN Museum his extraordinary American-Hungarian orchestra: Glass House Orchestra. One of the most important trumpeters of the New York jazz scene of Radical Jewish Culture, a member and co-founder of the legendary group The Klezmatics, along with a band of outstanding musicians, will take us on a journey through the pre-war streets of Budapest. Alongside the trumpet, instruments such as guitar, violin, cymbals, and double bass will resonate.
This time, London invited musicians from the USA and Hungary to collaborate. Each of them represents a different musical tradition and experience. The pretext for this instrumental experiment was traditional Jewish music from Hungary. On stage, folk melodies will meet punk rock and improvisation.
The New York artists include Aram Bajakian, a young guitarist known for his collaboration with Lou Reed and highly acclaimed original recordings for Tzadik Records, Jake Shulman-Ment, an ethnomusicologist and violinist, Pablo Aslan, a double bassist enjoying the reputation of a giant of Argentine jazz, and also Yonadav Halevy, one of the most renowned Israeli jazz drummers. Hungary will be represented by: Miklós Lukács, one of the most important virtuosos and innovators of traditional Central European cymbals, Edina Szirtes Mókus, a vocalist and violinist, and Béla Ágoston, a multi-instrumentalist combining jazz, folk, and experimental music in his playing.
Frank London is one of the most important figures in Jewish music in New York and worldwide. He is a member and co-founder of the legendary group The Klezmatics. Their album 'Wonder Wheel' was awarded a Grammy in 2007 for Best World Music Album. London is also a member of the famous groups Hasidic New Wave and Klezmer Brass Allstars. Even more impressive is the list of artists who invite the trumpeter to their own projects: from Chava Alberstein, through Lester Bowie, Iggy Pop, to John Zorn. The artist has been a regular attendee and star of the Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow for years.

On June 30, he will perform for the first time on the stage of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews POLIN.
June 30, 19:00, tickets: 40 PLN (rows A-K) and 30 PLN (rows L-W)
