This outstanding musician, conductor, educator, and music theorist stands out among other prominent contemporary musicians, as for over 30 years he has been researching and interpreting musical wonders left in oblivion. Jordi Savall, through his work and dedication, has restored many abandoned works of early music to humanity, along with his late wife Montserrat Figueras and the ensembles Hespèrion XXI, La Capella Reial, and Le Concert des Nations, he revives lost music in his recordings, courses, and concerts. Born in 1941 in Igualada like many other stars of classical music, he began his musical journey as a child in a children's choir in his hometown, continuing it at the Conservatory in Barcelona in the cello class. In 1965, he began to teach himself to play the viola da gamba and to interpret early music. He then moved to Switzerland, where from 1968 he perfected his skills at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, and five years later he took over the position of his master August Wenzinger, remaining there collaborating in the organization of concerts and master classes. He has over 160 recordings to his credit, among which stand out: 'Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres' (1988), 'Creu de Sant Jordi' (1990). The artist can also boast a significant number of awards and distinctions. He was named 'Musician of the Year' by Le Monde de la Musique (1992) and 'Soloist of the Year' by 'Victoires de la Musique' (1993). He also won the 'Golden Medal in the category of Fine Arts' (1998), became an 'Honorary Member of the Konzerthaus' in Vienna (1999), Doctor Honoris Causa of the Catholic University of Louvain (2000). He also received the 'Victoire de la Musique' for professional achievement (2002) and in 2003 the 'Medalla d'Or' from the Catalan Parliament and the Honorary Award from 'Deustchen Schallplattenkritik'. Thanks to the use of his music in the soundtracks of 'All the Mornings of the World', incredible concert and discographic activity, early music ceased to exist only for the elite and began to interest more and more and younger people.
