The outstanding pianist Joep Beving returns to Poland, this time accompanied by the remarkable cellist Maarten Vos. The neoclassical masters will perform on Saturday, February 1st at CK ZAMEK in Poznań.

Joep Beving is an exceptional pianist associated with the Deutsche Grammophon label. His extraordinarily elegant and emotionally rich music draws on ambient and neoclassical influences, and critics see connections to the works of creators such as Ólafur Arnalds, Hania Rani, Max Richter, and Nils Frahm. He is inspired by ancient philosophy and Eastern spirituality, and he says of his work: it is a 'quiet rebellion against madness'.

Maarten Vos is a Dutch cellist, composer, and producer living in Berlin. In addition to his solo career, he has collaborated with Nicolas Godin (AIR), Julianna Barwick, the contemporary dance group Conny Janssen Dansto, and numerous digital/visual creators. He also composes music for films. In his work, he focuses on creating modern classical, ambient, and electronic music, blending the sound of the cello with modular synthesizers. Beving and Vos have previously worked together on the recording of Beving's album 'Henosis' for Deutsche Grammophon.

Recently, in collaboration with Nils Frahm, they recorded a beautiful and atmospheric album 'Vision Of Contentment' for Frahm's label - LEITER. 'Making an album from scratch as a joint project was something that Maarten and I wanted to try for some time' - says Beving. 'I always try to create small worlds where listeners can temporarily reside. Working with Maarten and Nils Frahm really helped me with this. Maarten is a sculptor of sound, and Nils is... a master of sound!' - he adds.

Most of the material was written and recorded in July 2023, when Maarten and Joep met in a small cabin in the woods near Utrecht to write music together. The album is a tribute to Mark Brouner - Beving's manager, friend, and collaborator of both musicians, who at that time was battling a long illness. The two close friends, connected by the twilight of the presence of a departing friend and the soothing sound of instruments, created a soundtrack to his journey to the other side.

'The main theme here is 'The Blue Hour', the twilight' - explains Beving. 'The transition from one state to another, but also an embrace of darkness.' Despite the melancholic tone, the authors' intention is to find 'comfort in the acceptance of the inevitable'. The meditative, Eastern-influenced perspective also evokes thoughts of the creativity of one of the patrons of this project: Ryuichi Sakamoto. Joep says he intends to 'leave listeners with a simple sense of love', adding: 'I hope our music also facilitates the search for harmony and understanding'.
