Hajda Banda / Гадзіна Банда is a Belarusian-Polish group performing original arrangements of traditional songs and dances from Podlasie, western Belarus, and Polesie. The band features acoustic, regional instruments: violins, three-row harmonium, cymbals, and frame drums. The only 'Podlaski bigband' draws inspiration from rural creators such as Wiera Grygoruk, Edmund Brożek, Stanisław V. Malenczyk, or the Studio of Folklore of Podlaskie Belarusians 'Żemerwa'.
As described by a ninety-two-year-old resident of the Podlasie village of Dubicze Cerkiewne watching the band's concert, Hajda Banda plays 'like in the old days' (jak koliś). And according to a four-year-old from Białystok, 'Hajda Banda plays beautifully like a star in the sky, cheerfully, joyfully.'
On March 8, 2025, the band's second album titled 'Niepraudzivaya' was released. The album's release was supported by over 150 fans of the group as part of a crowdfunding campaign.
The band's debut album, 'Hajda!', was released on February 24, 2023, by Karrot Kommando. The release won third place in the Folk Recording of the Year 2023 competition and third place in the public voting of Virtual Gęś for the best folk album of 2023.
In May 2022, the group won third place, the Audience Award, and the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic Award in Szczecin during the XXIV Folk Festival of Polish Radio 'New Tradition'.
Hajda Banda / Гадзіна Банда was formed in the autumn of 2021 at the initiative of violinist Daria Butskaya and since then has played over 90 concerts in Poland and abroad. Musicians of the band living in Warsaw, Bielsko Podlaskie, and Krakow gather their experiences also in other bands and projects, such as Duality, Sw@da x Niczos, Dance Orchestra Bonanza, or Kapela Ozimkowicza.
