Flute

Flute is the general name for wind instruments with wooden lips (often made of metal, silver, or gold nowadays). The most common variations of the flute are the grand flute (most popular) and the piccolo. Flutes are classified as woodwind instruments, although they can be made from various materials like ivory, porcelain, plastic, noble metals...

Grand Flute

It is characterized by a large scale (c1-c4), technical capabilities, and agility. The sound of the flute is soft and gentle in the low registers, and clear and sharp in the high registers. The flute is often used as a solo instrument, and in orchestral works, it is mostly responsible for the melodic and figural parts.
The technical capabilities of the modern flute are presented by virtuoso of this instrument: James Galway in the composition by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov titled 'Flight of the Bumblebee':

Piccolo Flute

It is a smaller variation of the flute with a higher scale by an octave (d2-h4). The sound of the piccolo flute is very sharp and penetrating.
The piccolo flute is presented in a Baroque atmosphere - Andrea Will performs Largo by A.Vivaldi with organ accompaniment.

Alto Flute

A less common variation of the flute with a lower scale than the grand flute.
The alto flute is presented in a jazz atmosphere with elements of beatboxing - track: 'buddha lounge' performed by: Dirko Juchem

Straight Flute

One of the most popular musical instruments, structurally similar to folk fujaras. Straight flutes come in many sizes and tunings (from sub-subcontrabass flute to sopranino). A popular instrument in the Renaissance and Baroque era, before technical advancements in the form of keys caused the transverse flute to offer greater technical possibilities.
We present the straight flute in a direct clash with the traverso flute in G.Ph.Telemann's E minor concerto for the straight flute (recorder) and the traverso flute performed by the Risonanza ensemble.

Subcontrabass Flute

The largest flute in the world made by Kotato & Fukushima, located in the museum in Tokyo, played by Stefan Keller.

Flute in Pop Music

Bouree by J.S.Bach performed by Ian Anderson, the leader of the rock band Jethro Tull, who supposedly wanted to be a guitarist but realized he would never be as good as Eric Clapton, for example. Flutists among rock musicians are much fewer, Ian then started learning to play the flute, believing it would be easier to break through - and so it was - he was right ;)

And finally, a Polish accent - Grzegorz Ciechowski with the band Republika and the song 'Śmierć w Bikini' with a distinctive flute solo:
