Zielona Góra Philharmonic: Premiere of the new recording "Colas Breugnon" by Tadeusz Baird

The Zielona Góra Philharmonic has recorded the suite 'Colas Breugnon' by Tadeusz Baird, available from December 23.

Event Description

Thanks to funding from the National Reconstruction Plan, the Zielona Góra Philharmonic has recorded a masterpiece of its patron, the suite in the old style 'Colas Breugnon'. Distinguished artists were invited to participate in the project: flutist Ąukasza Długosza and Marta Kluczyńska, who conducted the String Orchestra of the Tadeusz Baird Philharmonic. From December 23, the recording can be listened to for free.

'Colas Breugnon', a suite in the old style for string orchestra with flute, is a hallmark work of Tadeusz Baird. It was created in 1951 based on Baird's musical illustration for a radio play of the same title based on the novel by Romain Rolland. To this day, it is the most frequently performed work by Baird. Due to its enormous popularity, the suite deserves the title of a hit in the entire oeuvre of the composer, evidenced by the humorous title 'Coca-Cola Breugnon' given to it by conductor Andrzej Markowski.

Artists' Bio

In the latest recording, the Zielona Góra Philharmonic reached for the title, which is patronized by Tadeusz Baird. They invited outstanding Polish artists: Ąukasza Długosza – recognized by critics as one of the most outstanding flutists, who is also the most frequently awarded flutist in Polish history. Meanwhile, the String Orchestra of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic was conducted by Marta Kluczyńska, who is currently the musical director of the Polish National Ballet. The recording was made in the S2 Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw in November of this year. From December 23, it is available for free on the Philharmonic's channels (website, YouTube, and social media).

Organizational Details

The initiator of the recording is Rafał Kłoczko – conductor, composer, and director of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic. The project is part of a collaboration with the R. Peryt Foundation aimed at recording and publishing all of Baird's works. So far, a complete set of chamber works, for solo piano and voice with piano, has been recorded. All the recordings can be listened to for free on a specially created YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@TadeuszBaird1928).

The recording was made thanks to a grant from the funds from the National Reconstruction and Resilience Plan, which aims to prevent the long-term negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and encourage green and digital transformation in the cultural and creative sectors. The own contribution to its implementation was provided by the Marshal's Office of the Lubusz Voivodeship, together with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the organizer of the Tadeusz Baird Zielona Góra Philharmonic.
