Emma Kirkby

Being a student of classical philology at the University of Oxford, this world-renowned singer, an authority in the world of early music, without major musical plans, took singing lessons from Jessica Cash. As a teacher, she sang for pleasure in groups or choirs, mostly choosing Renaissance and Baroque repertoire.
Dame Carolyn Emma Kirkby was born in Cambridge in 1949. Since 1973, she began collaborating with the Consort of Musicke, where she met her future musical partner, lutenist Anthony Rooley. Her debut took place a year later in London, and since then the soprano began to specialize in early music. She participated in early recordings with Decca Florilegium along with the Consort of Musicke and the Academy of Ancient Music. She was one of the first singers to seek the right vocal color to match the ancient instruments. For this reason, she had to develop her own techniques, with the help of her former teacher Jessica Cash and the members of the ensemble.
She is the recipient of many awards. In 1999, she was named Artist of the Year by Classic FM Radio listeners, in 2000 she received the Order of the British Empire, and since 2007 she has been included in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. In April 2007, the BBC music magazine placed Emma at number 10 among the best sopranos. The artist has been collaborating with many chamber ensembles and orchestras such as London Baroque, Freiburger Barockorchester, L'Orfeo (from Linz), Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, as well as younger ensembles like Palladian Ensemble and Florilegium. To this day, the singer has recorded over a hundred albums with various types of music. In Poland, she participated in the recording of Mikołaj Zieleński's Opera Omnia with Joel Frederiksen, Zygmunt Magiera, Łukasz Motkowicz, Andrzej Biało, Susi Ferfoglia, Collegium Zieleński, and Stanisław Gałoński released by DUX. This album was nominated for this year's Fryderyk Awards in the category of "Classical Music, Album of the Year Early and Baroque Music". Nevertheless, the artist continues to give concerts, which are a pretext for her to create something new from her wonderful repertoire.
