The ensemble was formed in 2008 at the initiative of the soloists of the Szczecin Baltic Neopolis Orchestra â graduates of higher music schools in Berlin, London, WrocÅaw, and Szczecin. The musicians are primarily passionate about the classical repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries, although their innate individuality allows the ensemble to create and engage in unconventional artistic projects.
The quartet does not shy away from experiments in museum spaces, radio studios, churches, industrial buildings, and outdoor settings. By 2015, the ensemble had performed at, among others: the International Organ Festival in Szczecin (2009), the International Festival in TrzÄsacz Sacrum non profanum (2012), the 42nd International Festival of Contemporary Music PoznaÅ Spring Music (2013), the Celebrations of the LutosÅawski Year in Prague (2013), the 1st Gorzów Festival of Contemporary Music named after Wojciech Kilar (2013), and the 22nd Usedomer Musikfestival (2014). The musicians are regularly invited for studio collaborations both in theatrical and entertainment projects. They have recorded string parts on the albums of Jola Szczepaniak 'BabaGada' and Katarzyna Nosowska '8'. Two quartets by Piotr Klimk and the II String Quartet by Orestes MichaÅ DobrzyÅski have been dedicated to the ensemble.
The diversity of personalities and the aforementioned high level of individuality of the ensemble members gives them a broad perspective on modern performance and interpretative trends, which translates into chamber music, resulting in concerts with a unique atmosphere combined with professional performance. The Baltic Neopolis Quartet is a group open to original ideas. It supports the promotion of Szczecin as a city of culture. The quartet's fresh perspective on classical music allows the artists to do unique things, making it possible to blend music of various kinds with other areas of artistic expression during concerts.
The ensemble has several music publications to its credit: 'Kompozycje SzczeciÅskie' (2013) â an album containing five string quartets by contemporary Szczecin composers, 'Tribute to Carl Loewe' (2014), featuring the String Quartet in C minor op.26 by Carl Loewe, and the exceptionally atmospheric album 'Il Tramonto' (2015) recorded with soprano Joanna Tylkowska-Droźdz.
