Anna Netrebko began her career by cleaning at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, where she was quickly noticed by conductor W. Gergiev and made her debut at the age of 22 in the role of Susanna in
Mozart's 'The Marriage of Figaro'. After a successful start, the artist performed at the Kirov Opera, embodying roles such as Amina in Bellini's 'La Sonnambula', Pamina in Mozart's 'The Magic Flute', and Lucia in Donizetti's 'Lucia di Lammermoor'.
In 1995, she graduated from the Conservatory in St. Petersburg, and in the same year, the world learned about her incredible talent when she performed the role of Lyudmila in Glinka's 'Ruslan and Lyudmila' at the San Francisco Opera. Since then, she has become a respected soprano invited to international concerts.
Her performance in the opera 'War and Peace' as Natasha Rostova at the Metropolitan Opera in New York confirmed the class and genius of the singer and placed her on the list of the 9 most important opera music stars. The artist participates in many projects, festivals, and concerts with philharmonics from around the world. She is the winner of many awards, including the Glinka Vocal Competition (1995), the International N. Rimsky-Korsakov Vocal Competition (1996), 'Amadeus Music Award 2003', 'Echo Award 2004', 'Best Singer of the Year 2004', 'Bambi' in the Classical Music category (2006).
Since 2006, Anna Netrebko, in addition to her Russian nationality, also has Austrian nationality, which she actively pursued. According to the Austrian press, the singer plans to permanently reside in Vienna and Salzburg.
In September of this year, the soprano will start the season at the Metropolitan Opera by interpreting the English queen in Donizetti's 'Anna Bolena'. The premiere can be watched live on giant screens installed at Times Square and Lincoln Center.
