Aga Mikolaj is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Poznań, where she had the opportunity to learn singing from prof. Antonina Kawecka - one of the most recognized Polish opera singers. She continued her education in Vienna, where she participated in classes with world-famous artists - Renata Scotto and Elizabeth Schwarzkopf.
She began her professional career in 1995 at the Grand Theatre in Poznań. She performed in productions such as 'The Marriage of Figaro', 'The Magic Flute', and 'La Juive'. She spent 7 years there, while also performing in operas in Warsaw, Łódź, Wrocław, Luxembourg, Heilbronn, and Hannover. In 2002, Aga Mikolaj continued her career as a leading soprano at the opera in Munich.
Aga Mikolaj frequently performs in top European opera houses including Essen, Paris, Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Graz, and Mannheim. One of her recent roles - Donna Elvira in the production of 'Don Giovanni' in Monte Carlo, was warmly received by critics and audiences. She also made her debut across the ocean - performing in Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Providence, Montreal, and at the Avery Fisher Hall in New York.
Aga Mikolaj's repertoire is very wide and includes works from Bach to Penderecki. Among the world-class conductors she has collaborated with are Marco Armiliato, Philippe Auguin, Daniel Barenboim, Harry Bicket, Bertrand de Billy, Ivor Bolton, Jacques Delacôte, Gustavo Dudamel, Adam Fischer, Sir Mark Elder, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Michael Hofstetter, Philippe Jordan, Jiri Kout, Zubin Mehta, Cornelius Meister, Kent Nagano, Seiji Ozawa, Marc Piollet, Krzysztof Penderecki, Peter Schneider, Stefan Soltesz, Karl Sollak, and David Stahl.
