ADAM KLOCEK

ADAM KLOCEK – conductor and cellist, winner of the 'musical Oscar' – Grammy Award 2014, described by Krzysztof Penderecki as 'one of the most promising conductors of the younger generation'. In 2004, the artist won the competition for the position of assistant conductor to Maestro Jan Latham-Koenig, the artistic director of the Wrocław Philharmonic and the 'Vratislavia Cantans' festival.

Since 2006, he has served as the general and artistic director of the Kalisz Philharmonic, and since 2011 as the artistic director of the Młoda Polska Philharmonia orchestra.
In 2012, he also became the artistic director of the Częstochowa Philharmonic.
The artist's performance at the International Music Festival 'Ermitage' in St. Petersburg, during which he conducted the State Hermitage Orchestra, was described by the leading all-Russian newspaper 'Niezawisimaja Gazeta' as 'the voice of the heavens'.
Adam Klocek's conducting interests and abilities were noticed by Jerzy Maksymiuk, who appointed him as his 'assistant'. As a ten-year-old, he conducted for the first time an orchestra from the Warsaw music school on Miodowa Street. Shortly thereafter, he performed alongside Maestro Maksymiuk, conducting philharmonic and student orchestras (including the Baltic Philharmonic and the Krakow Philharmonic).
However, the main focus of the artist's development has been his career as a cellist. As a laureate of numerous cello competitions, including those in Poznań, Cologne, Munich, and New York, as well as awards and scholarships (C.M. von Weber, Interlochen Center for Arts, European Broadcasting Union EBU), he performs in numerous musical venues. Recent concert plans included an invitation to participate in the world premiere under the baton of the composer of Concerto grosso by K. Penderecki, participation in the Europalia festival, the inauguration of the VIII Lutosławski Forum at the National Philharmonic, and tours in the USA and Japan. For the premiere recording of 'Concerto Grosso' with the National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of A. Wit, the artist received the 'Fryderyk 2002' award. In January 2003, he performed at the gala concert inaugurating the 'Year of Krzysztof Penderecki' at the National Philharmonic. In September 2004, he performed with Sinfonia Varsovia the world premiere of the Cello Concerto written for him by Krzesimir Dębski.
Together with Leszek Możdżer, he performed in a duo, described by the BBC as 'sensational', whose album became a bestseller in 2005, and both artists were the only representatives of the classical music world to perform at the gala birthday concert of TVP Kultura.
He was under contract with Universal Music. He plays an Antonio Stradivari instrument from 1717.
The impulse to return to conducting was the encounter with the conducting art of one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century - Carlos Kleiber.
The artist also received conducting recommendations from Jerzy Maksymiuk, Janos Fursta, and Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach.
He has conducted most of the symphony orchestras in Poland, including Sinfonia Varsovia, the Polish Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of the National Philharmonic, the Krakow Philharmonic, the Baltic Philharmonic, the Podlasie Philharmonic, and the Wrocław Philharmonic.
From 2007 to 2009, he was also a guest conductor of the symphony orchestra in Arizona (USA). He has performed with artists such as Shlomo Mintz, Heinrich Schiff, Valery Afanassiev, Krzysztof Penderecki, Witold Lutosławski, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Vadim Repin, Randy Brecker, Boris Pergamenschikow, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Antoni Wit, Sophia Gubaidulina, Freddy Kempf, Sayaka Shoji, Wanda Wiłkomirska, Jadwiga Rappe, Leticia Moreno, Kałudi Kałudow, Pierre Amoyal, Elmar Oliveira, Julius Berger, Gilles Vonsattel, Ivan Monighetti, Richard Hyung-Ki Joo, Naomi Rachel Kudo, Avri Levitan, Dimitry Vasiliev, Leszek Możdżer, Waldemar Malicki, Krzesimir Dębski, and Włodek Pawlik.

He continuously collaborates with Zbigniew Preisner (including the films 'Beautiful Country', 'Woman in Berlin', 'Funeral', 'Preisner's Voices'). The album 'Preisner's Voices' (SONY Music) featuring the artist received triple platinum status. In September and October 2013, there were two new premieres of Z. Preisner's music with Adam Klocek as conductor and soloist: 'Four Colours of Łódź' and 'Diaries of Hope' (Barbican Hall in London with the participation of Britten Sinfonietta).
Adam Klocek is the initiator and co-creator of the album 'Night in Calisia' featuring the world-renowned jazz trumpeter Randy Brecker. The album won the Grammy Award 2014, also achieving triple platinum status.
He is also the artistic director of international music festivals: 'Multimedia Amber Road Festival' and 'All Sides of the World' in Puławy.
He is also a lecturer at the Academy of Music in Krakow with a postdoctoral degree. As a composer, he is the author of chamber, symphonic, and film music. In August 2014, the world premiere of his suite 'Phoenix' took place on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the destruction of the city of Kalisz, written for Dawid Podsiadło and Monika Borzym. This concert, recorded by TVP, gathered 14 thousand listeners.
In 2008, Adam Klocek was honored with honorary membership in the Union of Russian Composers. In October 2013, he received the Medal of the National Education Commission. In August 2014, the Minister of Culture awarded the artist the Silver Medal 'Gloria Artis'.
